A softball player hits a ball whose path is modeled by f(x) = -0.0005x² + 0.2127x + 3, wehre x is the distance from home plate (in feet) and y is the height of the ball abote the ground (in feet). What is the hihest point this ball will reach? If the ball was hit to center field which has an 8 foot fence locaed 410 feet from home plate, was this hit a home run? Explain

max height occurs at -b/(2a)

= -0.2127/(2 * -0.0005)

= -0.2127/ -0.001

= 212.7

The max height is f(212.7) = 25.62065 feet

f(410) = 6.157, so no the ball did not clear the fence...
