How do you get x in this problem?

12⁄x+3=x+3/x

Vivian L.

I assume this is...
12/(x+3)=(x+3)/x
Cross-multiply...
(x+3)2=12x
(x+3)2=(x+3)(x+3)
FOIL...
FIRST...(x)(x)=x2
OUTER...(x)(3)=3x
INNER...(3)(x)=3x
LAST...(3)(3)=9
x2+6x+9=12x
x2-6x+9=0
(x...)(x...)=0
We need two numbers that when multiplied together have a product of +9, and when added together have a sum of -6.  Both numbers must be negative...
(x-3)(x-3)=0
x=3
Let's check it...
12/(x+3)=(x+3)/x
12/(3+3)=(3+3)/3
12/6=6/3
2=2
