a.)State the domain of φ as an interval or union of intervals.

b.) Show the function φ is continuous on its domain.

√(x²–9) is real and continuous in x <= -3 union x>=+3

x²–2 is nonzero and continuous if x is not = (+ or -) sqrt(2)

So the domain is x<=-3 union x>=+3

In this domain the function is continuous because it is the quotient of 2 continuous functions with denominator nonzero
