"dx" represents a measurement in the x-direction that is an extremely small value. We use it to calculate the area under the curve of the function 14x3/5 - 10x5/7. By multiplying a width (which is dx) times a height (which is the function value) we get the area of an extremely small rectangle and then we add all the rectangles up to get the area.
