Improving your acting ultimately depends on your personal goals as a performer, as well as the style of learning that best suits you. Navigating the world of theatrical performance can be intimidating, but it doesn't have to be! Here are some tips for improving your acting:
- Participate in acting. Acting is an experiential art form, meaning you'll gain the most skill and improvements through active performance. Look for local acting classes in your area or audition for a local community theatre production!
- Research acting methods. From Strasberg to Meisner to Adler, there are several different approaches to acting. You're under no obligation to pick one; in fact, it's highly recommended to study multiple different methods and take the tools that are most useful to you and your journey.
- Develop your script analysis skills. Acting often requires preparation. The more preparation you have, the better your acting will be. Analyze the characters, objectives, and subtext.
- Watch performances. As an experiential art form, you gain a lot of insight from analyzing others' performances.
I offer lessons in survey of acting techniques, and script analysis, as well lessons in theatrical foundations for absolute beginners. Feel free to reach out for more information!
