How do you find length and width while only knowing the diagonal?

I know there was an example but is there a template? I was looking at the example and it came to apart where it was x^2+4x^2+16x+16= 26

I'm asking this as I don't know where the 16 came from, did it cone from the four? Can this be used for problems like this.

I'm trying to find the length and width of a rectangular having the hypotenuse of 65.

If all you know is the length of the hypotenuse, you do not have sufficient information to get length and width. All you can say is

L² + W² = H²

But that just expresses L in terms of W, without being able to solve completely for L and W.
