Let the velocity of the plane with no jet stream = v. Let j= the velocity of the jet stream
v+j=v1=220
v-j=v2=110
v+j=220
v-j=110
add those two equations to get 2v=330 or v= 165 mph
v+j=220
165+j+220.
j=220-165=55 mph
j=55 mph
The velocity of the jet stream is 55 mph
The velocity of the plane alone is 165 mph
