Let’s first separate the first 2 terms from the 2nd 2 terms:
= (-x3 – x2) + (4x +4)
Now, for each set of parentheses, pull out the common terms:
= - x2 (x + 1) + 4(x +1)
Finally, let’s pull the (x + 1) out from each term
= (x + 1) (-x2 + 4)
Or = - (x + 1) (x2 - 4)
