Let x $ per pound cost of jelly beans and y $ per poundprice of almonds.
we have system of equations:
9x + 7y = 35
3x + 5y = 19
Using elimination method: multiply second equation by -3:
9x+ 7y = 35
-9x - 15y = -57
Adding equations we get:
-8y = -22, y = 22/8 = 2.75;
from second equation
3x + 5•2.75 = 19;
3x = 5.25, x = 5.25/3 = 1.75
Answer: $1.75 per pound cost of jelly beans,$2.75 per pound cost of almonds
