A total of 756 tickets were sold for the school play. They were either adult tickets or student tickets. There were 56 more student tickets sold more than adult tickets. How many adults tickets were sold?

Let student tickets = s and adult tickets = a.

a = s + 56.

756 = s + 56 + s

756 = 2s + 56

700 = 2s

350 = s. there were 350 student tickets sold.

756 - 350 = a

a = 406. there were 406 student tickets sold.

Check: s + a = 756.

350 + 406 = 756.
