There is a typo in your expression at the very end between the last x and y. It needs to be an operation of some sort (+,-,x, or /, most likely a + or -), not an equals sign. Assuming I am correct, my next assumption is that you are not trying to 'solve' but rather to simplify. Again, if I am correct, the method to do so is straight forward. Using your order of operations, PEMDAS, Simplify one step at a time. Don't skip steps, that's where you will make a mistake. The first order of operation is P, parenthesis. Distribute the 8 through the first set of parenthesis and the 9 through the second. The outer brackets have a multiplier of 1 in front of them, meaning they are doing nothing and you can drop them. Now write out every term. The next order of operation, E, exponents, don't appear in this problem, nor is there any M, multiplication or D, division, so all that's left is to collect like terms. Add all your x terms together, and your y as well.
If, in the original problem, there was no equal sign, you are done. However, if there was an equal sign (.....=0) for example, I would assume they want you to solve the equation for y.
