Zulema,
Let’s say Antonio’s age is A and Kim’s age is K.
5A + 3K = 56
K = 3A
We can substitute 3A for K in the first equation to get
5A + 3(3A) = 56.
5A + 9A = 56
14A = 56
A = 4. Antonio is 4 years old. If Kim is 3 times Antonio’s age, she is 12.
Now let’s just double check our work:
5 times Antonio’s age + 3 times Kim’s age is 56.
5*4 + 3*12 = 56!
Hope this helps! :)
