Hi Kendrick, the way to tell which on is which is by looking at the direction of the inequality sign.
1) if the less than sign is towards the terms contained by the absolute value sign, you will have "and."
Example l3x-5l<7
2) If it points the other way you will have "or."
Ex. l2x+15l>9
-7<3x-5<7<=> -7+5<3x<7+5<=>2<3x<12<=>2/3<x<4, this is "and"
2x+15>9<=>2x>9-15<=>2x>-6<=>x>-3 This and
2x+15<-9<=>2x<-9-15<=>2x<-24<=>x<-12 this are "or."
