In order to complete this problem, use what's given to help you setup an equation. Given that f(x) equals 17 and f(x) = 8x-7, you can rewrite the problem as 8x-7=17. Next, you would add 7 to both sides of the equal sign to simplify your equation. Which in return, you will recieve 8x=24. Finally, divide eight to both sides of the equation as you are trying to get x only by itself and your final answer will be x=3. Plug it back into the original problem to verify your answer as well.
