Let x = a number
x/-8 = 7
If you multiply both sides of the equation by -8, you aren't changing the equation. So:
(x/-8)*(-8) = 7*(-8)
Cancel the -8s on the left:
(x/-8)*(-8) = 7*(-8)
Multiply 7 and -8:
x = -56
-56 is a number that when divided by -8 is 7
