"Sue is 7 years older than Bob." would mean that S = B + 7.....(1) (since Sue is the older of the two)
"Together their ages sum to 51." translates to S + B = 51..........(2)
Using equation (1) and substituting it into equation (2) we get:
S + B = 51
(B + 7) + B = 51
2B + 7 = 51
2B = 44
B = 22
Which means that Bob is 22 years old and Sue (who is 7 years older) would be 29 years old.
