Canned juice A contains 70% apple juice; canned juice B contains 55% apple juice. How much liters of each should be mixed together to get 12 liters of juice that contains 60 % apple juice?

Let x = liters of juice that is 70% apple juice

Then, 12 - x =liters of juice that is 55%  apple juice

 

Amount of apple juice in A + amount of apple juice in B = amount of apple juice in the mixture

 

So, 0.70x + 0.55(12 - x) = 0.60(12)

 

0.70x + 6.6 - 0.55x = 7.2

0.15x + 6.6 = 7.2

0.15x = 0.6

x = 4 liters

 

Use 4 liters of juice A and 8 liters of juice B to obtain the desired mixture.
