I'd argue that hyperfocus is actually not an advantage, as many people see it. Healthy focus becomes hyperfocus when it becomes uncontrollable. A person in hyperfocus will work themselves to exhaustion and to the detriment of other aspects of life. The fascination with the topic they focus on, however, and the competence they gained through all the hyperfocus don't go away, and this tends to be what drives people to success -- not the ability to do one thing for hours on end without a break.

Medication can help, and there are a lot of options. However, which medication to take and whether it is right for you or your child to take medication is between you and your healthcare provider.04/28/20
