Ton understand this kind of problem, start with the basics....
Consider the equation y = x2 :
Plot the values of y for x = 0, +1, -1, +2, and -2. You will see the typical parabola shape---opening up.
Now do the same thing for y = - x2 Now the curve opens down.
Plot your given equation to see how it compares to the second example.

What I'm used to is that one starts with the "core" equation, and then see how the various constants affect it. For the given equation, the core is y = -x^2. One objective is to understand that anything with the same core will look similar.06/18/19
