The total cost of a sandwich, a bottle of milk and an apple is $3.50. The milk cost 1 1/2 times more than the apple. The sandwich cost $1.40 more than the apple. What is the price of each?

Let Milk cost be X
Sandwich cost be Y
Apple cost be Z
X+Y+Z = 3.5
X = 1.5Z
Y = 1.40 + Z
Z = Y - 1.4
1.5(Y - 1.4) + Y + (Y - 1.4) = 3.5
Solving this for Y
Y = 2
Plugging the value of Y for X and Z we get
X = 0.9
Z = 0.6
So cost of milk is 0.9, Sandwich is 2 and Apple is 2.
