how do you solve the equation 5x + 4y = -1?

 how do you solve this and what would the answer be to this I just simply cant figure this out!

 

• 5x + 4y =-1
• -7x -2y=-13

-7x-2y=-13

multiply second equation by 2

-14x-4y=-26

add the first and the new second equations

-9x=-27

x=-27/-9

x=3

substitute x=3 into either original equation

5(3)+4y=-1

15+4y=-1

4y=-1-15

4y=-16

y=-16/4

y=-4

x=3 and y=-4
