Given a flag with stripes of width d and some wooden matches of length L<d, estimate the value of pi.

Actually, it does make sense: It is possible to estimate pi by throwing some matches of length L onto a flag with regularly spaced stripes (e.g., an American flag) of width d>L and counting the fraction of the matches that land up crossing the border between two stripes.
