A bucket of popcorn and 3 movie tickets costs $30.00. The popcorn costs $5.25. What is the cost t of one ticket?

If the total cost is 30.00 and the popcorn was 5.25, that means the 3 tickets cost the rest of the 30.00
 
30.000 - 5.25 = 24.75 for the 3 tickets
 
So 3t = 24.75. Divide both sides by 3, and you get...
 
 t = 8.25
