The role of the producer has changed quite a bit over time. In most entertainment industries, the producer is the person who supervises the entire operation, often gathering the necessary people to complete a project, and managing those people to meet deadlines for the project. Now, the term producer often denotes the person who "produced" the music for a given artist. The changing face of digital music has caused this change in what constitutes a music producer, since digital production tools have allowed a single person to compose, record, mix, and master an entire production by themselves from the comfort of their own home.
