Hello! The degrees of crime are usually used to denote the severity of the crime and therefore the severity of its punishment. Not only will the characteristics of each degree change based on the crime (e.g. murder vs burgulary vs assault), the characteristics ofeach degree also change from state to state. I would recommend looking up the legislature on the crime you are interested for the state you are interested in!
