The are there basics of network security and they are the following known as the security triad::
Confidentiality = making sure unauthorized individuals don't gain access to data in motion or data stored (or at rest).
Integrity = means the changes done to data are done intentionally by authorized individuals/systems only. data can be corrupted accidentally or intentionally.
Availability = data/systems should be available to authorized users when needed.
