How can I get clean lows and distorted highs on a bass guitar?
1 Expert Answer
One way to achieve Clean Lows and Distorted Highs on a Bass Guitar is to mult or duplicate the Bass Channel over two channels and filter one to let only the Bass to Lo Mid frequencys pass thru and the other the opposite filtering out all the bottom end. At that point you could either put a distortion plug in on the channel that's allowing only the Highs through or overdrive it using a pre amp or your favorite overdrive method. For the Channel that's Bass only I would apply whatever usual plug ins you use then buss them both to an Aux Channel and apply compression to the sum of both channels to glue it together and adjust the balance between the two to taste.

There is a plugin called Halcyon by Soundspot that allows you to saturate any specific frequency range, narrow or wide with a slider on the upper end and a slider on the lower end. You choose which frequencies get the saturation and how much.06/23/19
