Presets are already designed sounds and functions in a certain plugin you’re using. For example, if I’m using a reverb plugin, there’s usually a default or a preset already loaded up as soon as I load it up. Usually plug-ins will have a little box with arrows to the sides of it (or a drop down box, etc) and I can go through and select different presets.
