The "roots" of a function are where it crosses the x-axis, or where y = 0. Consequently, just set y = 0 in your function to get: 0 = 2x2 - 5 then solve for x.
0 = 2x2 - 5
5 = 2x2
5/2 = x2
x = +/- sqrt(5/2) = +/- sqrt(10)/2
So the roots are real numbers that are irrational.
