I guess in terms of it pre-deterministic you could argue that some of it just hast to do with time/resources. If you have money plus time plus resources its possible to score high. But even if you don't have access to all these resources its still possible to do reasonably well. It depends on your target score and your timeline. You don't need a 520 to get into med school. Your application is so much more than your MCAT and your score at most is going to help you get a secondary application and maybe and interview.
I'm not going to lie the whole application process is long, stressful and sometimes even emotionally taxing. It helps having a friend to reach out to and talk about and commiserate together. I'd joke around with friends when I would bomb a practice test or get a rejection. This stuff is by no means easy but its more bearable when you can make it fun.
