Area and perimeter

Henry’s patio is in the shape of a rectangle. He drew the given mode of his patio. He said the perimeter of the patio is 48 feet. He know that one side is 9 feet wide. How many feet long are all the sides of his patio?

We have rectangle with 2 equal widths and 2 equal lengths

We know one side is 9 feet wide and since its a rectangle 2 sides are 9 feet wide

We can just plug 9 in the Perimeter Formula to find the other side

Perimeter of a Rectangle is 2(width) + 2(length)

Perimeter is 48 feet

The width is 9 feet

Let L = the length

48 = 2(9) + 2(L)

48 = 18 + 2L

Subtract 18 from both sides of the equation

48 - 18 = 2L

30 = 2L

Divide both sides of the equation by 2

30/2 = L

15 = L

So the Patio is made of two sides that are 9 feet and two sides that are 15 feet.
