x + y = 20000 since she invested $20,000 total
0.04x + 0.065y = 950 since we have the interest rates
I would substitute in y = 20000 – x into the second equation and then solve for the values algebraically.
When I do that I get x = 14000 and y = 6000 for the amounts here, meaning that the woman invested $14,000 at 4% and $6,000 at 6.5%
