During transfusions, blood typing is key. The blood cells don't live past 120 days, where as the hope after an organ transplant is that it will live years. Even though the blood type is matched up between donor/recipient the organ itself still carries genetic make up from a different body. The transplanted organ remains something foreign in the body that the reciepient's body may one day identify as foreign and attack.
