The entire real line is used by the first 2 functions.
There's nothing left for the third function which is a parabola,
which is continuous everywhere, as long as A is not zero.
If A is zero, then it is a line, which is still continuous everywhere.
The entire 3rd function is simply not needed the way the problem is
stated, nor does it have anything to do with the first two functions.
The only other issue is that the derivatives must agree at the mesh point x=8.
The function values are already both zer0, so THAT is taken care of.
To the left of 8, the derivative is 2x , while to the right of 8, the derivative is 1.
This forces 2x=1 ---> x = 1/2
