Hello, May
Well, the first thing we need to do is find the slope of the line. I am going to call (1,2) (x1,y1) and (3,4) will be (x2,y2).
The formula for the slope is
(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) Substituting
(4-2)/3-1)= 2/2=1
So the slope of this line is one. Now, I am going to pick the first point, (1,2) and use it to find the equation of this line. I am going to use the POINT-SLOPE FORM, which is
y-y1=m(x-x1) Substituting x1=1, y1=2, m=1
y-2=1(x-1) This is the point slope form
y-2=x-1 Using the distributive property
+2 +2 Adding 2 to both sides
y=x+1 This is the slope-intercept form
x-y= -1 This is the standard form
I hope this helps you out. Please rate my answer :)
