What is the difference between the domain and the range of a function?

I really don't understand what the difference between the range of a function is and the domain. Sure, the definition of the range of a function is the value of x for which all of the function is defined, but I have no idea what that really means.

The domain of a function is all of the valid x values for the function (or graphically/visually where the graph spans to and from on the x-axis)


Then range of a function is all of the valid y values (or graphically/visually where the graph spans to and from on the y-axis)
