Let d = the number of dimes

.05n+.10d=1.35      Multiply this equation by 100

5n+10d=135

n = 2d-1                Substitute the value for "n" into the previous equation.

5(2d-1)+10d=135

10d-5+10d=135

20d=140

d = 7 

n = 2(7)-1

n = 14-1

n = 13
