Exponential Function?

Question

coolsculpting is a fairly new fat-freezing procedure. One treatment dissolves about 25% of the fat cells in the treated region.

a) If a patient starts wih 5 lbs of fat in the treated region, how much fat will remain after 1 treatment?

b) How much fat will remain after 2 treatments?

c) How much fat will remain after 3 treatments?

Answer 1

Then 75% remains after each treatment.

 

5 lbs * 0.75 = 3.75 lbs  remain after 1st treatment

 

3.75 * 0.75 = 2.8125 lbs remain after 2 treatments

 

and 2.8125 * 0.75 = 2.109375 lbs remain after 3 treatments.

 

In general      5 * 0.75^n  = f(n) is the exponential function

which calculates how much fat will remain after N treatments
