How do I get 17 with the numbers 1,2,3,4 with only using them once

I need help cuz we are doing target 30 with only the numbers 1,2,3,4 and we can only use them once can u help

The simple option not requiring any "squares" of the numbers is:

 

3(1+4) + 2

 

= 3(5) + 2

 

= 15 + 2

 

= 17
