Hello Britt...
Hey, where is the rest of the problem??? Is there an equal sign??
First, we must identify a,b, and c. I am going to change this problem to x^2+2x= Some Number
a=1
b=2
What you need to do is take the b value, divided by 2, and then square that answer.. This is the number that you must add to both sides of the equation. (b/2)^2 = (2/2)^2= 1^2= 1. So add 1 to both sides.
x^2+2x+1= Some Number+1
X^2+2x+1= 1 Factoring
(x+1)^2 = Some Number +1 Take the square root of both sides
x+1 = +/- [sq. rt. (Some Number +1)] Subtract 1 from both sides
x= +/- [sq. rt. (Some Number +10] -1
Remember, that Some Number is the number that I think you are missing.
As always I am glad to help out. And keep asking questions.
