What is the probability of her picking two heart cards?

Ella is picking two cards from a deck of cards that contain only heart and spade cards. Based on her record, she has a 30% chance of picking a heart card if it's a red card first and a 60% of picking a spade card if she picks a black card first. Ella has a 40% chance of picking a red card first. What is the probability of her picking two heart cards?

 

 

It's a probability question that I really can't understand. Can someone please explain this to me, I will really appreciate your help.

Since you already know the probabilities, just combine them by multiplication.

 

chance of picking a heart card first = 40%

chance of picking a heart card after picking a heart card first = 30%

chance of picking two cards and both being hearts = 40% x 30% = 12%
