Measuring minimum and upper bounds of the area of a room if the measurements given are to the nearest metre

Question

A rectangular room measures 18m by 20m with measurements given to the nearest metre

a) work out the minimum area of the room

b) work out the upper bound of the maximum area of the room

Well is both measures were rounded up then the lower bound is 17 x 19 = 323

If on the other hand both measures were rounded down then an upper bound is 19 x 21 = 399

 

 

You said it is a room, there should be a third measurement
