Can someone please explain to me in the layperson language what a matrix is and how to solve a matrix?

I am having a very hard time understanding what the term matrix means. I have tried to ask a teacher and I received little help.

Hey Trayshauna--

 

A matrix is just a fancy way of saying a chart/graph/grid/array of numbers.

 

So depending on what information is in that chart, and/or what's missing from it, the question may be asking you to either fill in the missing information into the chart, or to create a chart from information you have or figure out, or to use information from a chart to answer another question.

 

Can you post an example of a question where you are supposed to use a matrix, and maybe I can help you with it?
