First we need to add up all the different shirts together:
7 + 5 + 10 = 22
And now out of the 22 in total there are 10 gray shirts. However, we DON'T want a gray shirt, so we subtract that from the total, giving us 12 out of the 22 that are NOT gray:
12/22 chance of getting a shirt that's not gray.
Now to simplify, we factor out common numbers. In this case, 2:
12 / 2 = 6
22 / 2 = 11
So the probability of choosing a non-gray shirt is 6/11, or six out of eleven.
