Often people do problems like this in their head by using the distributive property. since 197 is near 200, I can alter the problem by computing 4(200-3) which is 4*200 - 4*3. These are easy numbers to multiply, then subtract. 800-12 =788. In your head, this is easier to keep track of everything as opposed to your standard method for multiplication.
