to solve for y, convert to exponential form: (y+1)2 = 5(y2-1).
this is an ordinary quadratic equation (in y) and now you can solve it, I hope.

Furthermore, it is not a calculus question; it is an algebra question, unless you really wanted to find y' instead of y.  Please state clearly in the problem what it is you want to solve for.
