how do i solve for x and y

17=13x-3y

Andrew M.

17 = 13x - 3y
This is the same as
13x - 3y = 17
This is the equation of a line which is infinite.

If you need to graph it then set up a table of values and
find points that fit the equation.

-3y = -13x + 17
y = (13/3)x + 17/3

x     |     y
-----|----------------------
0    |   17/3 = 5 2/3
-3   |  -13 + 17/3 = -7 1/3

two points on the line are (0, 5 2/3) and (-3, -7 1/3)

You can plot the points and connect them to create the line

Andrew M.

The above is incorrect:  My apologies.

y = (13/3)x - 17/3

x             y
--------------------------
0          -17/3 = -5 2/3
3       13-5 2/3 = 7 1/3

The points (0, -5 2/3) and (3, 7 1/3) are on the line
