Word problem with fractions

Ann had some. Stickers. She game 1/2 of them to Betty. Then, she gave 1/8 of what she had left to Sammy. When she met Paul, she gave him 1/7 of what she had left. Next, she decided to share her remaining stickers equally with Mary. Ann was left with 12 stickers in the end. How many stickers did Ann have at first?

Number of stickers  Ann have at first = x

gave to Betty = x/2

gave to Sammy = 1/8(x/2) =x/16

gave to Paul = 1/7(x/16) =x/112

gave to Mary = 12

left with her = 12

so

x/2 +x/16 +x/112 +12 +12 =x

 

(56x +7x +x) /112 +24 =x

 

64x /112 +24 =x

 

x -64x/112 =24

(112x -64x ) /112=24

 

48x /112 =24

 

48x =2688

 

x= 56

 

Number of stickers Ann have at first = x=56
