hi, please help me. I'm studying for a test but I don't know what this means. And I can't find a decent website that will show me the answer.

There are 3 kinds of average;  mean, median and mode.

 

The mean is what your teacher uses to calculate your grade.   (24 + 14 + 22)/3 = 60/3 = 20

 

The median is the number in the middle if the numbers are put in order...  14, 22, 24.  The median is 22.

 

The mode is the number that appears most often.  Each number is there only once, so there is no mode.

 

The different forms of the average are used for different purposes.

Hi Yudoku - to calculate the average, we need to add up all the numbers, and then divide that by the number of numbers of we have.

 

We have 3 numbers. If we add them all up, we get 24 + 14 + 22 = 60

 

We now need to divide 60 by 3 to get the average

 

60 / 3 = 20

 

The average of 24, 14 and 22 is 20
