is there such a thing as an irrational number?

irrational numbers are numbers that don't repeat and don't terminate. but is there actually such a thing? at a certain point, it will definitely repeat no? so is there such a thing as an irrational number at all???

There are infinitely many irrational numbers, i.e. numbers which do not equal a ratio of 2 integers.  Examples:

 

√2, π, e, ...

 

The ancient Greeks proved thousands of years ago that there are irrational numbers.
